(More customer reviews)We live on a farm and have 8 cats. I've used Hartz Ultra Guard Reflecting Flea & Tick Collars on our cats for many years. They work well for the heavily wooded area we live in and zero of my cats have ever had any kind of bad reaction to the collars. And they are reasonably priced and last 7 months through the whole flea and tick season.

(More customer reviews)I recently used this to solve a flea problem in my home. It worked exactly as promised. I have used Hartz products before and this one did the trick. I looked online and there is low risk to humans and is relatively safe. There are known problems with cold blooded pets like fish and reptiles. I dont have any cold blooded pets so this was a good solution for me. I will use it again in the future if I ever have a flea problem.

(More customer reviews)Please, do not use this product!!!! I have to warn anybody who will listen... This product can be harmful if not fatal to cats! My cat died because of a very similar product. I want to warn everyone. Do not use Hartz drops either as they are just as dangerous! The only safe flea/tick medication is frontline advantage available from your vet. Yes, it is more expensive but isn't your pet's life worth it? Please believe me, I am not making this up or exaggerating! I lost my female cat and my male cat is still recovering from this poison. Please Please Please be safe and listen to my warning.

(More customer reviews)The label on this product claims that it kills fleas on contact.Well, I put that to the test: after using this product for a few days without any noticable results, I found a flea and placed it on a tile floor.I then sprayed it, leaving it swimming in a puddle.It didn't seem to faze the flea at all -- after struggling a bit, it jumped out of the puddle and kept on going.

Also, I purchased Hartz Flea drops for cats (which also did not work, at all).I did so despite having read nothing but bad information in the newsgroups I searched before purchasing the product.A few days later, I decided to visit the Hartz website, and found that the Flea drops are being voluntarily recalled -- in October 2005 (after flea season).While no reason was given, it was implied that people have complained about the product harming their pets (the notice says that Hartz does not admit that any cats have died).

I haven't found a good carpet spray yet, but for flea drops for my cats I picked up Frontline Plus from my vet, and it worked like a charm.It's pricey, but well worth it (working very quickly) -- but take my advice: avoid the Hartz stuff.

(More customer reviews)I was using Frontline on my Beagles and Chihuahua for years, it worked great but its a bit pricey times three so I looked for some possible treatment solutions between the spot ons.

This product, and the Hartz flea spray I purchased along side it, did not work at all. My dogs went from totally flea free to itching after their walks. Then the cat, who wasn't on a flea specific treatment as she never goes outside and the dogs had previously never brought anything in, started itching too.

I immediately went back to using Frontline on the dogs and now Revolution on the cat.

I also recently discovered the multitudes of lawsuits and websites against Hartz. I know that every product has its side effects and there will inevitably be someone or something with a reaction. But the amount of pets hurt by these products is really astounding.

Our pets are worth the extra money. We made them our responsibility and we owe it to them to keep them safe and healthy. We'll never go near another Hartz product.

(More customer reviews)If I could give this zero stars, I would. We have 2 indoor cats and clearly bring fleas in on ourselves from the yard. I thought I was being smart by spending less for this product. Never again will I buy a cheaper product. Not only did these drops not work at all, both cats developed scary side effects, including strange shaking (mini seizures?), drooling, unusual meowing, vomiting and a week-long loss of appetite. After seeing this I read some of the reviews on this product and similar inexpensive drops and can see that it pays to spend more on a more trustworthy product. I hate having to put pesticides on our cats but it is pretty clear to me that the companies that make the more expensive brands really do put their time and money into making sure their products are (what I would call reasonably) safe.

(More customer reviews)We used this product on our two cats after we discovered fleas on them.Within an hour, both cats were vomiting and drooling due to pyrethroid poisoning.Hartz Ultraguard Flea and Tick Dip for Dogs and Cats contains Pyrethrin, which is derived from Chrysanthemums.Interestingly, Chrysanthemums are toxic to cats.
If we had not washed our cats to remove the dip from their skin and coats, they most likely would not have survived the night without emergency veterinary care.
Please research before using this product, or any other Hartz product.Hartz products have a record of being dangerous for cats, and the company seems to not be concerned about the scores of animals that have been injured or killed after their products were used.
Be aware, there are even websites started by consumers who consider their pets to be victims of poisoning after using Hartz products.Just do a quick web search on Hartz victims and you'll find it.

It may take a couple baths to kill every single flea because they often hide when you start bathing your dog. I would suggest washing around your dogs ears first because they like to hide there.
