(More customer reviews)The collar does not have a bad odor nor did it cause any problems with any of my 5 cats wearing it. The ingredients (at their website) are less harmful than many other brands out there, hence why I purchased them. One of the cats is allergic to fleas (hair loss) and I noticed after about 2 months his allergy was flared, so I replaced it and all was well again. I rated it 3 stars since it did not last 6 months as advertised, but otherwise seemed to work well.

Preventic Tick Collar Review

(More customer reviews)As stated, these collars are intended to prevent Ticks from attaching to your dog.This is NOT a Flea collar.You may still find ticks that end up walking around on your dog, but this collar will likely kill them or keep them from biting/latching on to your dog.Here's how we started using Preventic collars:
We started using Frontline about 6 years ago and although we continue to use it today, we were finding ticks still attached to our dogs, engorged with blood.After we lost one of our dogs to Lyme's Disease, we decided to try these Preventic collars in addition to the Frontline.I know we are 'double-dosing' our dogs by using 2 products at once (and we get reprimanded by our Vet) - but after 2 years of using Frontline AND Preventic, the dogs have not had an adverse reaction, and it is VERY rare that we ever find a tick attached to any of our dogs.
***I don't recommend that everyone start using both Preventic and Frontline.We were desperate - we wanted to protect our dogs from the fate that one experienced.Using both could pose a health risk for your dog.
I've heard very good results from people who use the Advantix product on their dogs, but it is VERY dangerous to use around cats (we have too many cats that rub on the dogs) and although we did try the Advantix once on our dogs - all of our dogs had a reaction (itchy) to it.
So, until something else comes on the market that produces better results, we're sticking with the Frontline and these Preventic collars.These collars are also packaged under the name Zema - also made by Virbac, Inc. and have the same ingredient (9% Amitraz).I don't know if they are exactly the same or not.The Preventic collar states that it will kill ticks UP TO 90 days.The Zema collar (formally known as "Tick Arrest" collars) state that they kill ticks for 75 days and I've found that they are a little less expensive.

(More customer reviews)This is a response to the previous review.One ignorant review should not tarnish a good product.IF YOUR HOME IS ALREADY INFESTED WITH FLEAS YOU CANNOT BUY A COLLAR AND EXPECT THE PROBLEM TO GO AWAY!!No matter how many fleas on the animal die, fresh ones will keep jumping on.Overcoming an infestation takes much effort and many steps.You have to wash bedding daily.Vacuum daily.Use foggers correctly.Use sprays or powder on the animal (not both!)

Anyway, this is the only collar I buy.It is important to buy a collar that also kills flea EGGS.This attacks the fleas at multiple stages of the life cycle.This Hartz collar is as good as ANY you will find.Do not buy a collar at the dollar store.They do not work.

(More customer reviews)Spring has finally arrived here in the north and with it come the ticks.Yuck!I have two dogs and found one tick on my husky mix and four ticks on my pit mix.Seeing as my pit was having more problems, I sprayed her down with Adams flea & tick spray about 10 days ago, but I did NOT spray my husky at the time.

This past weekend we went out of town to go hiking in Minnesota and we ended up having an experiment without trying.The ticks there were HORRIBLE, the worst I have ever experienced.

I took my dogs out hiking at a state park in the morning and when we came back to camp I found four ticks on my husky, who, as previously noted, did not have any tick spray on him.My pit was clean, as was I.

We then went on a hike at the same park in the afternoon.The result... I had three ticks crawling on my legs.My husky had over 20 ticks (!) crawling around on him.My pit had one tick on her paw, but I never sprayed her paw with Adams flea & tick spray, so I can't blame that one on them.

That night I found a few more ticks on my husky, and when we drove home the next day he had another three ticks crawling around on him during the drive that I had to pull over and remove.

The results were astounding.My unprotected husky had 20+ ticks.My pit had one tick.Both dogs were leashed during our hikes and remained on the trail.The only difference is my pit had Adams sprayed on 10 days ago while my husky did not.If that is any indication to the effectiveness of this product, then I will remain a customer for years to come!
