We followed the directions to the best of our ability (appplying 4-5 drops a day, then swabbing out), but after 5 days we had to stop because our cat's ear had become so irritated she was rubbing the fur off of her paw and ear from cleaning it so much. Once we stopped, the entire inside of her ear scabbed up and flaked off, shedding disgusting ear nuggets all over our apartment for several days. The scab-shedding has finally stopped, but she still has ear mites!
